Course Aims |
The aim of this course is to provide a multi-disciplinary orientation to the study of consciousness. The quest of explaining consciousness has drawn a great deal of attention from a wide range of philosophers and scientists. Everybody wants to solve the problem of consciousness, and different thinkers embrace distinct perspectives on how it can be solved. Topics and materials are included in this course in order to give students a preview of this mysterious subject matter. The course emphasises critical analysis of all theories introduced as well as the exploration of one’s own perspective to the problem of consciousness through subjective experience.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOS) |
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Recognize and identify the interdisciplinary domains that make up consciousness studies; 2. Discuss some key debates, models and theoretical controversies within the field of
consciousness studies;
3. Compare the strengths and weaknesses of arguments put forth by proponents of
contrasting approaches in studying various phenomena of consciousness;
4. Describe a range of conscious activities through a neurophysiological approach.
