Course Aims
This course prepares students to face loss, grief and bereavement from the perspective of a professional counsellor. Students shall develop the empathy to clients from multiple perspectives and shall learn to implement relevant intervention procedures. This course will also help students to identify professional ethical issues relating to grief and bereavement counselling.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOS)

After completing the course, students should be able to:

1. describe the theoretical frameworks in the field of grief and bereavement;
 
2. develop diagnostic and assessment skills relevant to the different dimensions (physical, spiritual, intellectual, societal, emotional, cultural) with clients experiencing grief and bereavement;
 
3. implement a variety of intervention procedures used in grief and bereavement therapy;
 
4. identify professional ethical issues in grief and bereavement counselling;
 
5. monitor and review the use of counselling and support approaches and theories in bereavement counselling and support contexts; and
 
6. reflect on one’s own cognitive, affective, behavioural reaction, and explore personal values, attitudes and beliefs with regards to grief and loss
