Course Aims
This course is designed to give the students the theories of counselling and psychotherapy for working with children.  Students will learn the process of working with children and learn various prominent counselling approaches and the frameworks for supporting children.  The course also aims to train the students in the practical skills and techniques for working with children, while considering in general developmental characteristics of this population.  Students will be guided to reflect on their own childhood as a way to increase their own self-awareness as future counsellors.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOS)

After completing the course, students should be able to:

1. demonstrate an awareness of the developmental issues and needs of children;
 
2. show a good grasp of the major theoretical approaches in child counselling;
 
3. supplement their practice with concepts and skills learned in this course;
 
4. present their work in clear and concise manners (e.g. through presentations,
 
5. demonstrations, discussions, consultations, and report writing); and
 
6. achieve personal growth and an awareness of how their own family and relevant environmental background have influenced their development up to this point.
