Course Aims
This course provides students with hands-on experience in applying their knowledge of counseling and psychotherapy through partner exercises. Emphasis is placed on developing essential micro-counseling skills that are applicable to a diverse range of clients, beyond just children. These skills are crucial for play therapists and include building rapport and establishing relationships, conveying empathy, reflecting feelings, paraphrasing and clarifying, active listening, reflecting meanings, summarizing, questioning and focusing, directing and confronting, influencing, and nonverbal communication. The course adopts an interactive learning approach, allowing students to engage in experiential learning. Students will explore these skills throughout various stages of the counseling process and with clients of different age groups and backgrounds.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOS)

l   Apply counselling skills within an individual or group context Identify personal and socio-cultural factors in influencing their ethical sensitivity and reasoning

l   Create appropriate rapport and atmosphere for successful counselling and a good counselling relationship in practice sessions

l   Evaluate role performance as a counselor in practice and reflect on  counselor identity in written form

l   Discuss conceptualization of counselling cases
