HKSYU Scholar Highlights the Importance of Self-Care for SEN Carers
Dr Chung Man-chi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Counselling and Psychology at HKSYU, recently joined RTHK’s programme “visible. Audible” to discuss the challenges faced by carers of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and to share suggestions for fostering healthy growth between carers and their children.
Dr Chung highlighted that “letting go” benefits not only SEN children but also the mental and physical well-being of their parents. She noted that many carers—particularly mothers—often neglect their own lives, devoting all their energy to their children. She reminded carers of the importance of self-care, encouraging them to set aside at least half an hour each day for activities they enjoy, in order to maintain balance in life.
