Course Aims
This course aims at preparing students for internship and externships by introducing them to the principles, features, ethical and cultural concerns, and therapeutic considerations regarding psychological assessment from a counselling psychology perspective. Students will be equipped with the fundamental knowledge and skills in four areas of assessment: mental health screening assessment, clinical intake interview, suicide risk assessment, and career assessment. Students will also learn the scientist-practice attitude, knowledge, and skills in assessment report writing.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOS)

After completing this course, students will be able to:

1. Describe counselling psychology’s perspective, value, and position in the professional practice of assessment.
 
 
2. Explain the purposes, features, cultural and linguistic considerations, strengths and limitations of traditional and contemporary assessment types.
 
 
3. Apply basic knowledge and skills to facilitate, administer, score and interpret assessment, under supervision, in a professional and ethical manner.
 
4. Write assessment reports demonstrating fundamental scientist-practitioner attitude, knowledge, and skills.
