Pre-Conference Workshop on Pluralistic Therapy by Prof. Mick Cooper

The Division of Counselling Psychology (DCoP) of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, in collaboration with the Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU), is organising the conference: "Mental Well-Being for All: The Conference on Strength-Based and Preventive Interventions in Hong Kong and Chinese Communities." Taking place from 6–7 November 2026, followed by a Post-Conference Workshop on 8 November, this event also marks the 20th Anniversary of DCoP.

As part of this event, we are pleased to offer a Department-Exclusive Pre-Conference Workshop, “Pluralistic Therapy: An Introduction”, delivered in person by Prof. Mick Cooper. This is a valuable opportunity to learn directly from a leading figure in Counselling Psychology here in Hong Kong.

The pluralistic approach to counselling and psychotherapy recognises that different clients may benefit from different therapeutic methods at different points in time, and emphasises collaborative dialogue between therapists and clients about their goals and how best to work towards them. This emphasis on respecting individual differences, multiple perspectives, client preferences, and collaborative practice closely reflects the values of Counselling Psychology, including respect for clients’ subjectivity and agency, responsiveness to diversity, and an openness to different therapeutic approaches.

With the support of the Department of Counselling and Psychology at HKSYU, this workshop is fully funded and free of charge for all eligible participants. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to participants who attend the workshop. Please note that this event is only reserved for HKSYU Department of Counselling and Psychology students (Year 3 and 4 undergraduates, and postgraduates), staff, and alumni.
